Urgent Care and Your Kids

We want all your children to get good, accurate medical care! Distracted parents and chaotic situations can distract our medical staff from giving your children the best care.

Due to our room size, the maximum amount of people in the room is 4- this includes our medical staff. If you are coming with more than 3 people, please bring a trusted 2nd person to help supervise your children. We may need to split guardians and children into two different rooms.

Please call ahead. While we don’t take appointments, we can give you guidance on our wait times and we can begin to prepare for your visit. If you have several children/people in your family who need to be evaluated, we may need to see other patients in between your family members as well. Please be prepared for this.

If you have a special needs child, please inform the staff on the phone or at the desk of what makes the visit easier and less stressful for them. We will do everything we can to accommodate their needs to make the visit less stressful.

All children and adolescents over 12 will have their appointment without younger siblings in the room– only the child and their parent for HIPPA and to ensure privacy, respect, and comfort in the exam.

If all children aren’t being evaluated please keep in mind that asking the doctor to “take a quick look” still constitutes a visit and that child will need to be checked in with a chart and treatment. Our staff cannot “take quick looks” to treat your children appropriately.

During this visit children will be seen in order – oldest to youngest, one at a time to keep their medical information accurate. The doctors see each child like they are the only one in the room then move to your next child. They cannot rush the exam of each child.  This helps ensure the best care possible for your children.

Please prepare your children by discussing the visit with them. It is okay to bring non-sticky, non-sweet snacks and drinks with them and we suggest you bring books or toys that they don’t always get to play with that make it a special treat. There are toys and crayons/coloring in the office. Your children are growing people- they want to be engaged with you, their care, and the medical staff. They will be interested in everything around them. We want them to engage with you and with us so medical care isn’t scary. If you play and interact with your children, they will have a much better visit. We request parents spend the time waiting and in the exam room engaging with the children- playing, reading, discussing the visit, and not spending time on their phones.

Please don’t threaten children with shots if they misbehave. We do not want children to be scared of medical care and associate shots with punishment!

Please supervise your children carefully and safely, if you need help please bring someone with you. Our staff cannot supervise your children. If children are too wild or unsupervised, we may have to ask you to return another day. This is for everyone’s safety.
